The Case for the (Eyeglass) Case

Every time I got a new pair of glasses as a child I was just as excited to pick out a brand new (often pink) glasses case to put them in.  To me, that case was a very special container to transport my new frames.

Fast-forward about thirty years and I have a drawer full of eyeglass cases, but am admittedly horrible about using them.  I drop my glasses in my purse, in my make-up bag, into drawers, in my glove compartment.  They take a lot of abuse from me and rarely have the opportunity to be safe inside the cocoon that is the glasses case.

But, when the temple broke off of my favorite frame, I decided it’s time for change.   I’ve pulled out my favorite cases and resolved to use them.

Here’s why you should, too:

Number 1: Scratched Lenses are Hard to See Through

You have a gorgeous pair of designer eyeglasses – do you really want the lenses to look like someone scraped them with a push pin?  When they take a ride in the bottom of your purse or next to your nail clippers in that carry-on bag, that’s how they end up looking.

Scratched lenses can also distort your vision and, quite frankly, just be annoying.  A nice case will keep that from happening.

Number 2:  Temples are Fragile

–Truth is, the earpieces (or temples) on your glasses frame are much more durable than they would have been on a similar frame even a few decades ago.  But, they are still just small pieces of metal or plastic attached with only a screw to the front of your frames.

Give them a chance at a long life by closing them and then enclosing them in the case of your choice.  They will thank you for it.

Additionally, you know how hard it was to get them to feel “just right” behind your ears?  Your adjustment will last a lot longer if you care for those fashion frames properly.

Number 3:  Yuck is Hard to Get Off

Getting lotion, gum, crumbs, melted lollipop or whatever else resides in your bag (or on your bathroom counter) on your glasses is not great for their well-being.  Lotions can leave a filmy residue on your lenses. While gum…let me assure you from personal experience…you just don’t want to try to get that out of the hinge in your new Guess designer frame.

A gorgeous case will come with each new designer frame that you get from your closest America’s Best… For the sake of your glasses, I hope you will resolve, like I have, to use it.
