Two Pairs of Designer Glasses for Less than $70? Is It a Gimmick?

A friend recently confessed to me she was putting off a trip to the optometrist. “I’m just not financially prepared right now to spend $300 or more on new glasses and an eye exam,” she lamented. She needed an eye exam and a new prescription, but decided it was just not affordable for her to get the vision correction she needed right now.

But, I had good news for her. America’s Best is running this incredible, dare I say fabulous, Designer Sale where she could get two pairs of designer eyeglasses for less than $70. Her reaction: “That can’t be real. There has to be some sort of catch!”

Well, I have great news.

There’s no gimmick. There are no hidden fees. It’s just affordable and stylish vision assistance for a whole lot less than you would expect.

Because my friend is stubborn and consistently skeptical, her next question I should have predicted. “Oh, I know what the trick is. They only have the ugly and outdated eyeglass frames available at that price. If you want the designer looks, you have to spend a lot more.”

Wrong again, my friend. Wrong again.

I gently (yet firmly) pointed out to her that she was wrong once again. Do you call Sofia Vergara frames out-of-date and unstylish? I should say not! How about this frame, from Beyonce’s Dereon line of eyeglasses? Out of style? I hardly think so.

Dereon 507

Then I showed her this frame and a few others from the Project Runway collection. Seriously. If these frames are good enough for the nation’s next round of top designers and models, I think they are fashionable enough for her. Check out this one for example!

Project Runway 114Z Black Pink

I think my friend realized that this was an argument she wasn’t going to win. But, it was to her benefit for me to be right on this one. If you are making the same arguments as to how this deal is too good to be true, trust me. It’s not!

America’s Best has great deals all year round, but this Designer Sale can’t be missed! The sale runs now through the end of January. Call your closest America’s Best retailer and make an appointment to find out for yourself today!

America’s Best is a gimmick! They advertize designer frames at low prices. BS! Also the free eye exam is not FREE. And there is no guarantee, you can’t return them or complain.

    • Stacey says:

I’m sorry to hear you were disappointed. We do have many designer frames and our eye exam is always free with the purchase of two pairs of glasses. We also offer product protection plans to protect your investment. If you’d like to discuss it further, we’re happy to help – please email us at americasbest@nationalvision.com.

Correction *I agree! I joined the club which offers me 3 years of exams & still didn’t even order my contacts yet. So leaving I spent $300 on the exam & 1 single pair of glasses with only anti-glare lenses! My son bought me a pastor of Tiffany frames & they wouldn’t even put lenses in those! Sad & Broke!

      • Vallie Lankford says:

By the way I have single vision prescription too! I wish I had checked out this blog before going! I would have just paid my 100 for the club & ordered contacts. Lesson learned!

    • J says:

all of you (customers) are so right! Gimmick is true! i have single vision and paid extra for the POLY and verilite package on one pair of glasses – yet, funny it is still the thick lens and matches my 3rd pair i did not pay any addt’l for. I will never go to America’s Best again!!

  2. Mary Brooks says:

It is a gimmick. Your eye exam is only free if you buy 2 pair. Mine cost me $239 no $69.95 or 99.95 for no line bifocals. My husband’s were almost $200.00 and my son’s were $170. No cheap prices here. As I said the eye exam is only free if you buy 2 pair.

    • Andy says:

Hi Mary, you’re correct that the eye exam is free with a 2 pair purchase. The 2 for $69.95 offer includes single vision, uncoated plastic lenses, and frames priced $59.95. Upgrades to lenses and/or frames will add to the final total. If you’re unhappy with your visit, you can email me at americasbest@nationalvision.com and we’ll be happy to work things out with you. Thank you for your comment.

      -Andy

  3. Hadassah says:

Completely disappointed .. Glasses were 59$ for one pair which were the least expensive. Then they tell me my glasses would be 150$ cause my prescription was a special one. Complete scam and the only thing that I could do was just get my exams for 99$ and left. Completely gimmick.. They don’t even have less expensive glasses.

  4. Hadassah says:

We went to the location in bossier, la. While the people there were nice it
Was a total let down. We went way out of our way to go to this place and it eneed up being more expensive then a place 20 miles closer.

  5. tammy says:

Can I bring a prescription for my glasses in with me? I just got my eyes examined in Tuesday of last week. Also, how much is the anti glare coating? I was not impressed with the selection at my regular doc.

    • Andy says:

Hi Tammy, thanks for your questions! Yes, we do accept outside prescriptions. When you bring it in we will just call your previous eye doctor to validate it. As for anti-glare coating, the pricing will vary depending on different factors including how many pairs you’re purchasing or if you choose one of our package deals. We pride ourselves in our low prices, so I’m sure we can help you out! Would you like me to help you find the store closest to you?

      -Andy

    • Vallie Lankford says:

I paid $50 for the plastic lenses, the anti-glare was $46 extra for 1 pair. So $96 for anti glare single vision lenses! That was supposedly a discount for being a club member but that seems like a joke. I did all the totals & couldn’t find a discount on anything! Lol! I paid the same price @ a competitor for frames that was listed @$189! That place actually gave you the exam free. I’m totally let down but I’m the suckered, cause I should have got my script & left.

      • Claire Rozeman says:

We’d like to help with this issue. As a member of the Eyecare Club, you should receive 10% any purchase of glasses. 1. Do you have any deals fir someone that needs try-focalization?
    2. And I live in a small town around 100 miles west of St. Louis; but I was unable to get a listing to any stores by entering my zip. I know there won’t be any clues but what about different St Louis; Jefferson City or Columbia MO areas?

    • Claire Rozeman says:

  8. Catherine Howard says:

Hi Andy, I was just in on this past Friday and had my eyes checked and ordered glasses, after talking to my husband, and giving this more thought, I’m on disability and have no extra income, I’m on Medicaid, but you don’t except that, I want to cancel my order. The glasses were just way more expensive than I thought they would have been, at first they were well over $500, after a lot of cutting I still paid $300. I will be much better off and have money for the rest of the month by going to a eye dr that excepts Medicaid. I’m really disappointed because I liked the frames that were picked out. I just can’t afford to pay this price right now. Except my apologies please, and please tell me how to cancel the order for my glasses. I understand that I will have to pay the $45.00 for the exam but need the remaining $260.00 returned to my account. Thank you

    • Claire Rozeman says:

Hi Catherine, We’ll need more information about this to help you cancel your order. Have you contacted the store about the cancellation? If you email us at americasbest@nationalvision.com with your contact information and store you visited we can try to help.

  9. Shirley says:

Gee I’m scared to go there for fear of getting scammed into paying a lot

    • Claire Rozeman says:

Hi Shirley, If you’d like to go to America’s Best and receive our 2 for $69.95 offer on glasses you can definitely do that! The price of your glasses will only increase if you decide to add upgrades to your lenses or frames, such as anti-reflective coatings or warranties. If you have specific pricing questions before you make a purchase, we suggest swinging by a store before your exam to see which frames you like and which lenses you’d be interested in. If we can help in any other way, just let us know! -Claire

  11. Kim Johnson says:

Nobody should ever have to pay 500.00 for glass. Shame!

  12. Don Greable says:

I picked out 5 frames from the 2 for $69.95 rack to look at and decide what I liked. I picked out what I wanted and was told it would cost $100. I told her I picked them out of the 69.95 rack and I asked why the price increase. She told me I picked them out of the $105 rack which is calling me a liar since I told her I picked it out of the 69.95 rack and I did pick them out of the 69.95 rack. She pointed out the price of the pair I picked out was 69.95 and I can only take pairs that are 59.95. I looked at the rack that was supposed to be 59.95. There were lots of pairs that cost 69.95 in the 59.95 rack. They either never check to see that the glasses are in the right rack or it’s a bate and switch scam. There were so many expensive pairs in the wrong rack that it ovious that it’s a bate and switch. They called me a liar and tried to bate and switch me. DON’T GO HERE.

  13. Nina says:

This store offers a horrible customer service. You walk in and check in, they tell you to go sit and someone will be with you. You sit and wait while the employees are shooting bulls about their party lives. You wait and wait and give them dirty look than finally someone ask you if you’ve help. Yet, you sit there like an idiot. Let’s not talk about the person that puts in your Oder. I’ve waited a total of 6 weeks and still have not gotten my eye glass or contact lenses. They are very incompetent and offers an awful service. Stay away and go elsewhere. Let’s not talk about the phone service. The person that answers the phone doesn’t even know or get my appointments right. Save yourself the frustration. I don’t recommend this place at all.

    • Claire Rozeman says:

Nina, we’re very sorry you had this experience at one of our stores. We’d like to help! America’s Best, Lubbock, Tx. an outstanding store. Jeff, General Manager was awesome. They got us in quickly, staff was professional as well as very polite. They even fixed my nose pieces for free. Not a bad word to say about them. The cost very reasonable for two pair, no lines with transitions along with one year replacement warranty. Will definitely go back and tell family and friends.

  16. Brenda Yates says:

I Brenda Yates am very dissatisfied with American Best on I-30, Garland, Tx. I had my eyeglasses for 2 weeks and the lens scratched, only cleaning them with soft special cleaning towels. I took them back thankful that I bought the warranty because that’s the only way I I got another pair of glasses. I write this review because the second pair of glasses, the frames were all loose with the nose pieces falling off and folding arms were so loose that the whole pair of glasses jiggled. Disgusted when the eye glass fell out. I am one that is very careful with my glasses. I never took the second pair back because I am plum disgusted with this place. I am one that does not complain about things. But two times. Not gonna try a 3rd time because you know what they say happens the 3rd time. Just wanted to warn everyone that this place is not cut out to be an eyeglass place in my opinion.

    • Claire Rozeman says:

Hi Brenda, We’d like to help you with these problems with your glasses. Would you like someone from our management team to get in touch with you? Please email us at americasbest@nationalvision.com. Thanks so much and we hope we can resolve this. -Claire

    • Earlene says:

I agree with Brenda, my experience ( twice) was horrible both times! I only went back to give them a benefit if doubt…but it was NOT at all any better!! I even went to different stores but was treated the same in different ways by different ppl. My glasses that I paid a total of $359. was terrible. I had to hv them related after only 2 months! UNBELIEVABLE!!! AND NOW, after another month they are so loose & I cant tighten rhem by the screws…?? Rhe lenses scratchbso easily & I hv a hard time keeping them in my face. I picked a pair from the 69.95 but was told they were jyst too big for my face so then I was shown a pair for $104. That jyst looked fabulous (by everyone ) there. I am just SO dissappoinged & disgusted I cant even began to tell you how I feel. I will NEVER go back to an America’s Best store again. Please do NOT use these ppl. You will not save money bc you will if to go to another Dr to get a decent exam & glasses. The Dr at the last place didn’t even catch that I had cataracts less than 2 months later!! He was so unconcerned at my questions or anything I had to say, the worse visit I hv ever had…..bar none! I wrote & called them but that was just a waste of breath….rhere is a a bit more but it is useless to even try to get any of them to care or be any concerned. NEVER AGAIN will I be a fool for a third time. Thanks for absolutely nothing including my glasses, bc I hv to hv another pair to be able to see.

  17. Terry says:

The price does escalate significantly, when you thinking you can go in and get eyeglasses two pair for 69.00 dollars and at checkout you paying almost 400 for two pair that you thinking at the most maybe 140.

    • Claire Rozeman says:

Hi Terry, If you have questions about your bill or any charges regarding your glasses, we’d love to help. Please let us know which location you visited and the official name in your records. Feel Free to send us an email at americasbest@nationalvision.com. We hope we can help you. -Claire

      • Earlene says:

Why do you repeat to everyone that they need to send an email to you bc it does absolutely no good. You just tell ppl that so that customers will think that you care or are going to help but that is far far from the truth. People don’t waste your time emailing these ppl it is in vain !!!

I purchased 2 price of glasses that cost me 424.00 . When I picked them up I told them I couldn’t see good with them, they said I would have to get use to them. I tried for 2 days and could not walk or see with them. I went back and they said I wasn’t giving them enough time . I’ve never had this much trouble wearing glasses and I’ve worn glasses 50 yrs. Can you help me?

$69+ turned into $600++ real quick!!! Guess if you want cheap frames and cheaper lenses maybe, plus $45 for first visit??? How is it you can get lenses online for less than $40? Don’t know if you can get two pair else locally though.

    • Claire Rozeman says:

      Hi Cindy,
We’re sorry if you’re unhappy with your purchase at America’s Best. If you have questions or concerns about pricing or your frames, please send us an email at americasbest@nationalvision.com with the store you visited, the name on the account and the best way to contact you. Thank you!

  23. Louise says:

$99 turned into $200. I was under the assumption that 2 complete pairs of bifocals, including lens and frames were $99, but when I got ready to pay, the saleslady tell me the lens and frames are sold separately. That’s false advertisement!!!!!!! Nothing but a GIMMICK!!! So it’s really 2 pairs of frames for $69 and 2 pair of lenses for $99.

    • Claire Rozeman says:

      Hi Louise,
We’re very sorry there was miscommunication about the pricing of your glasses. Our 2 pair deals do include single vision uncoated plastic lenses, but any lens upgrades or bifocal/progressive lenses do increase the purchase price. If you’re unhappy with the glasses you received, please send the name on the account, the best way to contact you and the store you visited to americasbest@nationalvision.com. We’ll reach out and get someone from our management team to contact you. We apologize again for the inconvenience this has caused. -Claire

Bad advertimrnt who wants to carry around 2 pairs of glasses .. I thought you get 2 glasses the same ..no what you get is one for reading, one for driving and one to see were you r going for 69.95, what a joy. I was very disappointed…..had i known this before would went Walmart paid one price for 1 pair of glasses. . I am writing this without my glasses because I forgot the reading lense.

    • Claire Rozeman says:

      Hi Diane,
We’re sorry that you’re not happy with your glasses purchase. Customers are welcome to get the same prescription in both pairs. We hope the next time you visit us you have a better experience. We apologize again for the inconvenience.

  25. Mike says:

Very disappointed. My regular eyeglass place was charging me what I thought was too much for a pair of glasses. I foulessly fell for the ad I saw for Americas Best. I actually went into the store and showed them my glasses and told them they were no line bifocals. They told me I could get two pair of the same glasses for $189.00. I made an appt for the same day. I had the exam and then was set up with Abbey. Abbey started her sales pitch, but I kept telling her I just wanted to stay with the $189.00 glasses. She advised me that the bifocal has very limited and you can’t see out of the sides of the bifocals. I told her I felt lied to. She said you just didn’t do your homework on the ad. She advised me that it was cost me over $600.00 for the glasses I wanted. She suggested I just pay the $45.00 exam fee if I wasn’t happy. I paid the $45.00 and I believe I will go back to my old eyeglass store and happily pay them the $300.00. I guess I learned a valuable $45.00 lesson. If it sounds to good to be true , it probably is. I pride myself on not getting taken by salesman, but you got me.

    • Claire Rozeman says:

      Hi Mike,
I’m sorry you had a negative experience in our store. We hope if you revisit us, you have a more positive experience and can get the glasses you originally wanted. We apologize again for your poor experience.

  26. Christina stevens says:

I would give them zero stars if I could I took a prescription to the Glen Burnie office for my two year old daughter and she had them for two months and when she had a check up at her specialist they informed me that they read the prescription wrong and she had a completely different lens then what she was suppose to have and was completely off not helping her problem with her eyes at all but making them worse! I will never return to this place and would never say a single good thing about them to anyone! I’ve never been so disgusted with a place then I am with America’s best!!

  27. Christina stevens says:

I left a comment about stars in there just because I’m sharing my experience to every page I can find just to let everyone know how bad this place is!! And most reviews have the stars! But again don’t believe the prices of 69.99 and don’t expect your prescription to be right or to have professions or even people that know what they’re doing or talking about! This place just needs to shut down!

  28. Teri says:

I’m grateful to see a place where I can post my experience with America’s Best.
I took my 35 yo son for a pair of glasses for his Birthday. It’s been a while since I had a fresh exam & new glasses. I am very upset how we were treated. After the exam (Nice Dr. Great exam) very basic they charge big for the thorough exam. Afterward we are redirected to get two frames. Long story short, an attractive lady was very uncomfortable that I was art of my son’s session. Very money oriented. Ended u costing well over $550.00 just for his. $178 for mine. I felt violated at the end while were being rushed out.
SO DISAPPOINTED. IT’S A SCAM TO ROPE U . IN

  29. Shawna Martin says:

I took my grandson to the Poplar Ave store in Memphis TN to get the two pair of glasses for 69.95. When we got there they wanted to check him for glaucoma and do dilation to check his eye health, which the American College of Optimetry recommend you check every 4 years starting at age 40, for $20 each and my grand son is 10, then they examed his eyes. We were told to pick out frames so we went to the Childers wall and started looking. There were 14 frames eligible for the 2 for 69.95 deal. 8 of the frames were for girl, 4 were for toddlers and 2 pairs were appropriate for a 10 year old boy. When I pointed this fact out to the lady she said that was all the frames they had and there was nothing she could do about the issue. When I told her I wasn’t paying the 150 – 200 dollars for the other frames she informs me I could just pay for the eye exam and be done. She charges the eye exam to my card and I told her we needed a pair of the paperglasses used to protect his eyes from the sun since they had been dilated. She told me it wasn’t very bright outside and that he would be alright. I got very upset and she sat and looked at me like I was the crazy one. Whike the doctor was very nice and through in her exam of his eyes, the dilation and glaucoma checks were add ins to increase the bill but I paid for the exam so I wouldnt have to put my grandson through the exam again and went to Vision works and paid 49.95 for 2 complete pairs of glasses with a year warranty and lens protective coating. I will never go back to do business the people from Americans Best Glasses and Contacts. They run a shady business and falsely advertise the 69.95 price point. Every service is extra, protective coating, warranty, and they preform unnecessary tests to increase the charges once they get you joked into the office. My grandson wanted to know why he wasn’t getting his glasses because he didn’t understand that we had been duped. I told him it was like someone running a sale on oranges priced 2 for a dollar and only having 1 one orange. It’s a fraudulent claim to get suckers in the door. That is all.

    • Claire Rozeman says:

Hi Shawna, I’m very sorry about your experience at America’s Best. We don’t ever want our customers to feel this way. If you could send an email to americasbest@nationalvision.com, copying this review and providing your grandson’s name, we’d like to help. We apologize again for the inconvenience.

  30. Cheryl says:

I and my husband went to Burleson, Tx store to get an exam and glasses. They did charge my husband for the extra tests that are normally included in any other exam. When I told them he didn’t know that this should be included they did take the charge off. My glasses are the wrong prescription first of all. When I first tried them on I pointed that out. That I couldn’t see very good. I was also told that I just needed to get used to them. it has been two months and I still can’t see out of them. I had to go back to my old glasses to see. The frames on one of my pairs is so flimsy and they sit crooked on my face hurting my ear on one side. But they never tried to even adjust them or anything. Also one of the lenses was loose so I never where them. Then to add to everything else they charge you a fee of $5.00 for each eye added to the total price. For the second pair it was $10.00 for each eye. This place is a rip off and I will report them to BBB and the state attorney general’s office, specifically the Senior Citizens protection Dept. People beware. I wish I had read all the negative reviews of this place before we wasted our money. As we live on a limited income. In my opinion they are right up there with the rest of the scam artists we have to watch out for. What a rip off.

  31. Linda Ivy says:

I went to pick up my glasses and the prescription was not right. They were not the no lined lenses that I have gotten before and I couldn’t see thru them. I was on my lunch break…was told to come back to be measured for a remake. Went back this evening and then after being measured again so they could put the bifocal in the right place. I was told to wait again until the other tech finished with a customer. I sat for a while until he finished..but then he helped someone else and I heard him talking about his family. My time is valuable … I don’t have time to keep waiting after other customers over and over..especially since he started talking about his family. I ended up getting a refund and leaving. He never apologized either.

America’s Best is the biggest rip off in AZ. People should steer clear of this company. They are liars. BIG TIME. My husband and I went into the store in April. They proceeded to tell us the special was over. DUH????? So we left the store and have continued to see commercials advertising the product at the discount price. The store we went into was at Prada market center. The manager was rude, rude, rude. Apparently he doesn’t care to make money for his company. They all acted like they could care less. Sloppy store, not clean, and employees were rude and not professional. We would never patronize this store ever again. Nothing you can say will change our minds. The manager was a pure JERK.
