America’s Best has become an American tradition after being in business for more than 30 years.
Our History
Founded in July of 1978, America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses became the first eyewear company in the United States to offer contact lenses and a comprehensive eye exam for less than $100. In an era where contact lenses were too expensive for the average American to consider, this was a major breakthrough.
Later in the company’s history, America’s Best became the first of its kind to offer a full eye exam, eyeglasses and lenses for $50. This feat made quality vision care and well-made eyeglasses attainable for many, especially for those without vision insurance.
The first America’s Best store opened in a North Michigan Avenue office building along Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. The company has continued to grow tremendously since that first grand opening to our 500th store in Kingsport! America’s Best worked diligently through the years to acquire the top names in designer eyeglass frames and contact lenses. Brand name eyeglass frames from designers like Ray-Ban®, Karen Millen, Dereon, Sofia Vergara, and Guess are all available for incredible prices in each America’s Best location. Top contact lens brands like Acuvue, Biofinity, Air Optix, and Sofmed are also sold in-store or online.
