What To Do if You Are Losing Your Eyelashes

I looked down at my eyelash curler the other morning and noticed that there were about 10 lashes stuck to it. Ten. That’s a lot when you no longer have the long, luxurious, and full lashes of a child.

I’ve noticed that my lashes, in general, are not as thick and there aren’t as many of them. Some have been lost as an aftermath of pregnancy, I’m sure. The experts say hormonal changes can cause you to experience some lash loss.

Others, in my case, I think were lost through my own carelessness. I’ve read that tugging at them, rubbing them (guilty!) and wearing mascara that’s too heavy and then scrubbing hard to get it off (guilty, again!) can all cause some serious lash loss.

So, what’s a girl to do when her lashes are getting thinner and re-growth seems slow if not impossible? There are some great solutions. Here are a few:

1) Talk to Your America’s Best Optometrist.

Ask you eye doctor if he or she has any recommendations for increased lash growth. There are new prescription drugs available that can be applied directly to the lash line to encourage lash growth, so you can see if one of those types of medicinal help are right for you.

2) Check your diet.

Make sure you are getting enough vitamins and minerals to sustain and encourage new growth. Just like your nails, skin cells and the hair on your head need vitamin D and other vitamins to promote growth, your eyelashes are also depending on that nutrition to strengthen their numbers. Eating a lot of healthy fruits and vegetables and avoiding processed foods, along with drinking a lot of water, is a great place to start.

3) Give your lashes a break.

I’m going to have to throw away my eyelash curler. It’s going to be a sad day, but the truth is, it’s responsible for a lot of my lash loss. If you are having the same problem, consider tossing yours as well, or at least taking a month long break from it. Also scrap that heavy mascara and maybe try to go without mascara for a week or two to give your lashes a break from the rubbing required to get it off. Also, avoid at all costs wearing fake eyelashes. Although I can understand why you’d reach for them, they’ll cost you more of your natural lashes in the end.
