The Most Important Thing You Should Do Before You Start College

With just a few weeks left before many colleges and universities start classes, if you are headed to school next month I’m sure your to do list is a mile long.

You have to buy twin sheets and figure out if you want to room with that random person you met at the preview weekend or take who they give you. You must decide which is the perfect carry-all for toting your toiletries to the bathroom. While you are making big decisions, you should probably decide on a major so you have a solid answer ready for the question you’ll get asked one thousand times during that first week of school.

But, there is one thing that could change the course of your college career and it’s more important than choosing the right poster for over your bed or even the best “first day of classes” outfit. It’s getting a full eye examination.

That’s right: college will go a whole lot better for you if you can see well.

I hate to oversimplify, but many of us cruise through life squinting and thinking that everyone has a hard time reading signs after dark. The truth is, sometimes our vision problems just sneak up on us.

College is a different world, as far as your eyes are concerned.  You’ll be staring at the pages of a book or at that computer screen for hours at a time. You’ll be forced to study and read in different lighting and environments–like in the dark after your roommate has gone to sleep, or under the fluorescents that make the classroom look so sterile.

So, right now, before you purchase another closet shoe organizer or choose another class, call your optometrist at your closest America’s Best retailer and make an appointment today. Once school gets into full swing, you may not have the time to stop and think about your eyesight. So, get it done now, before you leave!

The great news is: if the doctor says your eyes are in tip-top shape, then you’ll know you are ready to hit those books next month. If there’s a change in your vision, you will already be at a great place to find the absolute best designer eyeglasses for bargain prices that will still leave some cash in that college “extras” account.
