Sophisticated and Stylish Semi-Rimless Frames

When someone tells me that they don’t really like the way they look in glasses, there is one frame that I always recommend they try-on.  That is the semi-rimless frame!

If you aren’t familiar with the concept of a semi-rimless frame, it’s an eyeglass frame that only has styling above the lens.  Your actual lens is then held in with an almost invisible piece of clear wire.

Some semi-rimless frames mimic the iconic “brow line” look from half a century ago, where you’ll find a very heavy design above the eye that either follows the brow line or creates the illusion or another brow line. Or, in other cases, you’ll find semi-rimless frames that are very subtle and almost invisible from far away.

Semi-Rimless Style

The semi-rimless look is not just popular, it also happens to be quite flattering on a lot of different face shapes.  Having a fashion frame that only features a design above the eye draws your attention higher on the face, often bringing the focus right on the eyes and adding the illusion of slimmer cheeks or a more narrow chin.

Personally, I love how sophisticated these frames look.  I also like the fact that in many semi-rimless frames you can give the illusion that you aren’t wearing glasses.  Many of the designer versions of these frames add a touch of class through beautifully ordained earpieces.

But, for the most part, the frames look simple from the front.  If you are looking for your earrings or other statement jewelry to take center stage, these glasses will certainly not detract.

Let me show you what I’m talking about.  Check out this frame by Guess.  It’s a hot, very “now” color purple but it’s understated from the front.  The temples on the sides have a pretty little embellishment that transforms them from plain to pretty.

Or, here’s another semi-rimless frame from Guess.  It’s got a black front and, from afar could look quite simple.  But, when you look a little closer you’ll notice the black and orange, reptile-look print on the temples that give it a touch of sass.

Finally, I think this Daisy Fuentes frame is so pretty it would look fabulous for a dressier occasion, even on your wedding day.  The front color is a subtle coral and the temples have a pretty floral pattern.
