Nose Pad Trouble!

agility silver votingI have always had a tough time finding the right pair of glasses.  My issue: my nose is small and the wrong shape for glasses! I’ve struggled to find a pair that would stay up. So, finding frames with nose pads (or asking my optician to put them in) has been my best option for keeping them in the right spot.

But, frankly, sometimes nose pads hurt!  Like a lot of people probably do, I just assumed that there was nothing that could be done–you just have to live with it.

Truth is: nose pads should not hurt!  But, if your nose is sore, then take a trip to your closest America’s Best retailer and see if the optician there can make them feel better.  A properly fitted eyeglass frame should result in a comfortable fit, even on your nose.

Get The Proper Fit

Usually, the number one reason why nose pads cause pain is that the pad arms are out of alignment.  This can happen when your glasses get knocked or when you try to adjust those nose pads yourself.  Sometimes people think that they can keep their glasses from slipping down by turning the pads inward, but instead of helping this actually does more harm to the frame’s proper adjustment.

A good optician, like the one’s you’ll find working for America’s Best, will know to check the glasses fit by first working with the temples — or the arms– of the glasses.  In some cases, if your temple is bent too far out (or not far enough out) it may change the way your glasses sit on your nose, causing that pad to turn into a pesky annoyance.

Check For Allergies

If that doesn’t solve the problem, your optician may ask you if you are allergic to silicone, which is what most nose pads are made of.  If this is causing your nose to be red or irritated, you can ask your optician to change the silicone pads for a different material.

Discuss Weight of Your Glasses

The final thing that your optician may want to discuss is the weight of your frame.  Unless you have a strong prescription, you may have a lot of options for making your lenses lighter.  Ask your optician if there are alternative lens materials that would not be as heavy like Trivex.  You can also ask to see eyeglass frames that are lighter weight.  Rimless frames are great option if traditional plastic or metal frames are weighing you down.

In short, there’s no reason to live with nose pad pain!  Take a few minutes to visit your closest America’s Best store today and find some relief today!

I cannot find nosepads that are not silicone. Can you help please? Silicone ones itch and burn.
