Is It Time for a Glasses Adjustment?

There are so many fabulous benefits to wearing glasses.  They look great and add style to any look…

There is only one time when I don’t love my glasses. It’s when they decide to start slipping down on my nose and need to be constantly pushed back up again.

Now, there’s no need to despair.  Glasses shouldn’t do this.

But, it’s a signal that it’s time to get an adjustment! Even if they were fitted just right when you bought them, sometimes after several months of wear, some knocks and bends… they’ll start to move!

Even though you may think you can solve the problem yourself, it’s always best to have your glasses professionally adjusted.  Your optician has a professional way he will heat and then bend the ends of your glasses’ temples so that they don’t break.  Trying to do this yourself could damage them and will likely void whatever warranty you had left on the frame.

So how can you tell when it’s time for an adjustment?

Here are 4 Easy Ways:

1. Your glasses just aren’t comfortable anymore.

Most modern day frames are designed for your comfort. They are lightweight to allow you to forget you even have them on.  If your glasses started off comfortable but no longer are, it may be time to get your adjustment checked.

2. Your glasses slide down on your nose.

If every time you bend down, turn your head, or do something quickly you find yourself having to push your glasses back up, then it’s time for them to be readjusted.

3. When you set your glasses down — with the curve of the earpiece down — they appear dramatically uneven.

There is a good chance that your ears are not perfectly aligned on either side of your head…but most have some degree of symmetry as to where their ears are set. Place your glasses on a flat surface.  If one side looks significantly higher than the other, you may have identified your adjustment problem.

4. Your bifocals or trifocal focus area is not where it’s supposed to be.

Your doctor took measurements and placed your bifocal and trifocal focus areas in a particular spot. If you are struggling to find that spot now, or if it feels like your glasses just aren’t “right” anymore and you don’t know why — this could be the problem.  Visit your optician and have him check your adjustment before you determine that you need new or different lenses.
