How to Look Like You Got Some Sleep (Even if You Stayed Up All Night)

Exams, term papers, that business proposal…A new baby, a lousy hotel room bed, or a sick child… These are just a few of the reasons why you may be staying awake while the rest of the world sleeps.

We all have nights where sleep just doesn’t happen. And the first noticeable sign to the world that you were up all night long is often found in your eyes.

Sadly, since most of us don’t have the option of making up for that missing sleep right away, it’s good to have some options for those days when you need to look awake and alive, yet you feel like the living dead.

Here are 4 great ideas for hiding your tired eyes:

  1. Cold Spoons or Cucumbers. Before you head out the door after a long night awake, take five minutes and rest spoons (from the freezer) or cucumbers from the fridge over your eyes. The cold will help hide the puffiness under your eyes or on your eyelids and will minimize that tired eye look.
  1. Hydrate. Sure, you may need that coffee or energy drink to keep you up all night, but don’t forget to drink water. The more hydrated you can stay, the better you can ward off the signs of sleeplessness in your eyes and your skin. Tired and dry, red and irritated eyes are less severe when you are well hydrated.
  1. White Shadow. A simple trick to helping your eyes look brighter is to use some white or light cream eye shadow underneath your eyelid. This makes your eyes brighter and detracts attention from any dark circles.
  1. Get a Great Pair of Eyeglasses. Sunglasses are the easy way to hide your tired eyes, of course. But it’s hard to wear sunglasses inside your office all day. So, make sure you have a great fashion eyeglass frame to put on when your sleep time is short. A great fashion eyeglass frame can cover a multitude of lost sleep hours and help you look like you put a lot of time into thinking about your look for the day. Choose a bold frame with a full rim or a heavy semi-rim (the heavy brow look) as best bets for covering up your lack of z’s.

So, the next time you’ve counted way too many sheep and not gotten nearly enough sleep, try these quick tips.
