Help!! I Have Coke-Bottle Lenses!

Recently a friend told me she couldn’t possibly wear her glasses. Contact lenses were her only option because her prescription was so intense. But, during allergy season, she had a few days where contacts didn’t mix well with her red, runny, eyes. So, she struggled against nature and put those contact lenses in anyway. (This is not recommended.)

When she actually showed me her glasses I couldn’t believe it. Those lenses were thick. And, when she put them on, I could see how she felt like she was fifty years older. These things had some depth to them and even in a stylish frame, it still looked like she was wearing two magnifying glasses.

So, I decided to help. I popped into my closest America’s Best store to have my glasses adjusted, and, while I was there, I investigated this problem for her. I asked the optician if there were any options for my friend and her -9.50 prescription.

And, he had good news.

There is! In fact, so-called Coke-bottle lenses are becoming a thing of the past.

They are called Verithin High Index Lenses. They are comfortable, more discreet than thicker lenses, and also lighter weight. Every person who has worn a heavy lens in a pair of glasses says a huge, “Hooray!” to that.

They are made of high index plastic, which is reasonably scratch resistant and looks nice. You can choose a variety of lens colors and types though when you choose the Verithin option. You also get to choose how thin you want them to be. Verithin offers a variety of what are called refractive indexes and that allows you some flexibility to choose just how you want your lenses to look.

Another big concern for people who wear higher prescriptions is often, “Do I have to just choose from a certain set of frames to fit my lenses?” And the answer, with Verithin, is: Absolutely not. You can choose just about any frame you like and these lenses will fit in it just great.

Girl Trying On Glasses

Of course, the general rule of thumb is if you have thicker lenses; choose a smaller frame lens size. Experts also agree that thicker lenses generally look better in a round or oval shape. Choosing a smaller and rounder lens will help your lenses not appear to be as thick as they actually are.

If you have thick lenses and are ready for a more comfortable and stylish change, visit your closest America’s Best retailer and ask about Verithin lenses. I don’t think you’ll regret it!
