Great New Tortoise Shell Eyeglass Looks

There’s one eyeglass frame look that has come been a constant in the eyeglass fashion world for a long time, and that is the classic tortoise shell look!

A long time ago, the eyeglass frame was actually made from the shells of a tortoise. But, since the tortoise (especially the hawk-billed tortoise, whose shell was especially beautiful) went on the endangered species list, now eyeglasses and other fashion items with the tortoise shell look are made of a stained plastic. Though actual tortoises are thankfully no longer involved in tortoise-shell frames (except to serve as a muse), the marbled look is still wildly popular.

The gorgeous combination of brown and black tones, often with amber or yellow flecks in it, makes tortoise shell a color option that looks great on many different skin tones.

Some of the newer tortoise shell frames combine a contrasting color on the inside for a great fresh look. Others have a vintage appeal, mimicking a classic horn-rimmed or vintage styles. Either way, tortoise shell is a hot look for this season, and one that many different frame companies are featuring.

Here are a few of the hottest new tortoise shell frames out there:

Kardashian Kollection

You’ll never go wrong with a tortoise shell frame from the Kardashian Kollection. The popular reality TV sisters are known for their sense of style, and this beautiful, high-end, fashion eyeglass frame is no exception.

Guess 1513

Guess frames are a must-have choice for the fashion forward. I love this tortoise shell frame’s style and design. I love the pretty decorative temples on this frame, too.

DKNY 4650

On the right person, this frame is dynamic. It’s a beautiful lighter shade of tortoise, and it would look fantastic on a face that can pull off this season’s hot, over-sized retro frames look. I like the duo-tone crystal and tortoise shell that adds even more illusion of light to this pretty frame.

Commotion Funky

Here’s a great example of a duo-tone color frame incorporating tortoise shell with a contrasting color. In this particular eyeglass frame, the light pink on the inside gives the tortoise shell a more feminine look. This would be a great pair of reading glasses. I also think this frame would look fabulous on a teenager who is too old for children’s frames but not quite ready for some of the larger, more adult looks.

Just Jade

Here’s another super cute tortoise shell look that will be so comfortable to wear because of how lightweight these temples are. I love how this frame incorporates both metal and plastic, giving it a unique and fun look.
