Four Ways to Make Your Eyes Look Bigger (No Make-up Required)

Making your eyes the center of attention

Some say that people with larger eyes are generally found to be more attractive. I’ve also read that babies have eyes that are disproportionately large eyes compared to their head size because those big eyes invoke more compassion.

Whatever the case, for some reason our society seems to deem “big” eyes as better.

But if you wear glasses, you know it can be difficult to bring attention to your eyes behind those frames. So how can people who wear glasses make their eyes look larger?

Some experts would recommend cosmetics. Mascara, eyeliner, and the right shades of eye shadow can help you accomplish the illusion of larger eyes. But, what if you want to do it without make-up?

There are many tricks to creating the perception of bigger eyes without using cosmetics.

Get enough sleep

Nothing will shrink your eyes faster than a short night. When your eyes are puffy and sport dark circles or bags from lack of rest, your eyes will automatically appear smaller. Try to get enough rest – every night. If you know you’re going to have a short night of sleep but are concerned about the looks of your eyes the next day, try using moist tea bags or cold spoons (put a metal spoon in the freezer for a few minutes) to reduce future swelling.

Avoid bright sunlight unprotected

Simply put, bright light shrinks the pupils while dimly lit areas will force the pupils to grow larger, letting in more light. Beyond the pupil’s natural reaction to bright sunshine, facing outdoor brightness without proper protection (like a great pair of ophthalmic-quality UVA/UVB blocking sunglasses) will take its toll on your eyes and the skin around them. Squinting because you don’t have good sunglasses will create lines around your eyes that will give them the appearance of being smaller over time.

Don’t smoke

Cigarette smoke not only wreaks havoc on your lungs, but also on your eyes. The damage done to your skin, especially the delicate skin around the eyes, will cause premature wrinkles and fine lines that make your eyes look smaller than they actually are.

Choose a great pair of glasses

Glasses don’t have to make your eyes look smaller. In fact, quite the opposite. A great eyeglass frame should draw attention towards your eyes and frame your eye area. Then, the lenses, and in turn your eyes, are the center of attention. Choose a frame that is the right shape for your face and a good color for your skin tone and hair color. That will help to highlight your eyes instead of hiding them!
