So, those changes just don’t happen.

But, here’s a list of just five very simple things you can do this week that will help improve your overall health, and, in particular, can help improve your eye health too.

1. Look Away

Your eyes (and, most likely, your brain) are tired of staring at screens of all shapes and sizes all day long.  Look away.  Give those eyes a rest.

Ideally you should gaze outside, a window–anywhere far away—for at least a minute every twenty minutes you are staring at a glowing box.  Be intentional about putting down your smartphone or stepping away from your computer, your eyes will get a healthy reprieve.

2. Eat Guacamole, Salmon, or a Salad

Everyone knows that a healthy diet is important, but doing an extreme makeover on your fridge and pantry requires a lot of time and willpower.  So, start small by focusing on adding one important nutrient to your diet – like omega-3 fatty acids.  Studies show they reduce your risk of macular degeneration or dry eyes.

3. Take a Walk

Exercise makes you feel better, can help you lose weight, and can help decrease your risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.  But, did you know it’s also great for your eyes? Higher levels of physical activity have been shown to reduce risk factors for glaucoma and macular degeneration.

4. Clean Up

Taking a minute to clean your glasses properly, clean your car’s windshield, wipe your sunglasses lenses, or finding time for an overnight sterilization for your contacts, are all easy ways you can start seeing a little better, immediately.  For your glasses use soap and water and a lint-free cloth. It will, quite literally, give you a new outlook on life.
