So, it may come as a surprise to you, but up until recently I had no idea that bifocal sunglasses existed.

I know, I know. “But Sunny, you work for eye care professionals,” you must be thinking. But blame it on my ignorance or just the fact that I don’t personally use readers, I didn’t know.

And then it occurred to me, surely I am not the only one. I must write about this phenomenon of progressive lens sunglasses and share my newfound knowledge.

So here we go.

What Are Bifocal Sunglasses?

Bifocal sunglasses are only the greatest invention since sliced bread. Just kidding.

But seriously, think about all the times you’ve been on vacation and couldn’t read your favorite book poolside without being completely blinded by the sun? Or the last time you went out to eat, got seated on the patio on a beautiful sunny day, and had to squint and struggle to read the menu while fighting off being blinded? Wearing bifocal lenses shouldn’t mean sacrificing cool sunglasses.

Bifocal Sunglasses are just that. Sunglasses with prescription bifocal or progressive lenses. So, if you’re lounging poolside with a book, and you look up and straight out your distance vision is clear and as soon as you look back down to get back to your captivating read, your text is effortlessly in focus.

The Difference between Bifocal and Progressive Lenses

If you’re reading this article, chances are you wear either bifocal or progressive glasses already. But if you’re new to wearing these types of lenses, or you’re curious, or you’re just completely enchanted by my composition skills, either way,  I’ll explain a little about the difference between bifocal prescription lenses and progressive lenses.

The difference is simple. In fact, it’s as simple as a line.

Bifocal lenses contain two different prescriptions separated by a visible line. You look up for distance, down for reading with absolutely no transition in between.

Progressive lenses, on the other hand, progressively move from one prescription into another with no visible line. Progressive lenses look identical to a “regular” lens, meaning no visible line.

And now, last but far from least…

The Benefits of Having Bifocal Sunglasses

Now, if you already wear bifocal or progressive lenses, you won’t need much convincing on how awesome bifocal or progressive sunglasses are. However, if you sit there wondering how many glasses to take before going on your beach trip or if you despise sitting on the patio regardless of how beautiful the weather is in fear of eye strain, you need bifocal sunglasses.

Not only do you get amazing comfort (imagine a life with no squinting in the face of glare off a laminated menu…or the bright white pages of your favorite author’s new book), but you also get an awesome new look.

Designer sunglasses, such as Ray-Ban® to Vogue™, can be instantly transformed to prescription sunglasses. Not just prescription – but prescription bifocal or progressive sunglasses. With bifocal or progressive sunglasses, you don’t have to choose between comfort and practicality. You can have both and look (not to mention feel) cool all in the meanwhile.
